“This equipment, if not maintained properly, poses serious and significant public safety concerns,” said the department. The department said officials met with mill representatives to discuss the safety issues and noted the company has indicated publicly its intent to take the necessary measures to ensure all equipment is compliant with safety regulations.The company would not elaborate further on the situation and on Monday, April 8, only said that the shutdown would be used to perform maintenance and repairs on some of the equipment connected to the mill’s steam and air distribution systems.
