Totems, coached by former SFU bench boss Allison McNeill, carry 39-0 season record into final game
The Totems, with a line-up loaded with Grade 10s, beat the defending champion Kelowna Owls 82-64 Friday in the semifinals of the Triple A girls basketball provincial championships at the Langley Events Centre. The tournament’s top seed, the Totems will now carry their 39-0 season record into Saturday’s 5 p.m. finale against the No. 2 Walnut Grove Gators, who advanced with a 73-63 win Friday over the No. 6 Brookswood Bobcats.
You’d think that a team still that young might get rattled in situations like Friday, but the group has played an extensive club schedule and they come off as much older than they actually are. There was no signs of panic from the Totems. Coach Allison McNeill says that she stressed to her troops that “we were in good shape, considering how we shot the ball.”“Once you make a couple, confidence builds and everyone starts thinking that they can make them,” said Semeniuk. “It was hard for us to come out of it because you give up inside once you start chasing the shooters.
