A school bus driver in Toronto has been charged with dangerous operation causing death and careless driving causing death after a 22-year-old woman was struck and killed in October. Anthony Phillips, 60, turned himself in to police after the incident, which occurred near Victoria Park Avenue. The victim's family identified her as Rachel Turner and are seeking $7.5 million in damages from Phillips and the bus company.
Toronto police say around 4 p.m. October 9 they were called to the Kingston Road and Kingswood Road area, near Victoria Park Avenue.
The 22-year-old woman was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries, but died three days later.Anthony Phillips, 60, was arrested Thursday and charged with dangerous operation causing death and careless driving causing death. “Charges won’t bring Rachel back, but they show that her death was preventable and that she wasn’t to blame,” her father, Leon Turner, said. “It is important that someone is held accountable so that, hopefully, action can be taken to prevent similar tragedies in the future.”
