His living situation has worked for him for five years, Labre said. Now, he said he feels like he’s being pushed out, and he doesn’t see any safe, affordable options for new places to live.
Chanda Lockhart, a residential property manager for ICR who is responsible for Labre’s building, told the StarPhoenix the company has imposed rent increases due to the costs it’s facing in the market. With 25 years of experience in the housing business, Lockhart said benefits simply haven’t kept up with the cost of living.Labre is not alone facing the mounting pressure of surviving in Saskatoon on a fixed income.
“When you don’t have enough money for housing, homelessness is the end result. And we all know that prices have gone up,” she said.
