ICYMI - Ryan Alford: David Lametti must explain why he didn't resign over bad Emergencies Act advice
The Emergencies Act allows the Government of Canada to expand its powers into realms otherwise reserved for Parliament.

The Public Order Emergency Commission’s own primer on the Emergencies Act notes that, ” ‘Threats to the security of Canada’ has the meaning assigned by Sec. 2 of the Canadian Security Intelligence Service Act.”
How could this remain uncorrected at the cabinet level? After all, a lawyer was present in the meeting in which it was approved: Justice Minister David Lametti. One of his principal duties in that role is to provide legal advice to the government that is independent and non-partisan. Additionally, in his capacity as the attorney general, Lametti had a responsibility to uphold Parliament’s legislative authority.
