Indeed, it was like a second chance for the Riggers — one Cornwall and faceoff man Zach Currier didn’t want ending up in the loss column again.“Zach basically said, ‘Run up to the line, and the first guy that has the ball, you’re going to take him, and the second guy without the ball, I’ll take that guy,’” Cornwall said. “And when I saw Zach win the clamp, I thought, ‘I don’t think these guys are used to losing draws, so I’m going to try and pick the ball up and go for a run.
The first for Currier was the second of two shorthanded goals netted by the Roughnecks within 39 seconds of each other late in the first quarter. Haiden Dickson stepped off the bench to receive a perfect pass from goaltender Christian Del Bianco and raced untouched to the net to deliver the team’s third goal of the night.
“He’s unbelievable,” said Cornwall, giving Currier high praise. “There’s a reason why he’s the No. 1 lacrosse player in the world.” The ball dented the twine with under one second left in third quarter, moving the Roughnecks to within two goals — again — with the fourth frame at hand.
