ICYMI - Roman Baber: Don't turn Canada into a censorship state
. But free speech is necessary not just for democracy, it is a must for good public policy. Disagreement in Parliament, on TV, in the boardroom or in the classroom is a good thing. A greater number of perspectives affords decision makers with better and nuanced choices.
Most importantly, we must not allow Canada to turn into a censorship state, where speech is prohibited by legislation, fear of reprisal or threat of exclusion. Government does not know best. People do. That is democracy and it cannot function without free speech.Roman Baber is a former member of Ontario’s Provincial Parliament.
