“I am excited to have my work in a public space because I feel a lot of my work is privately sold, so not much of my new stuff is shown in a public space,” Davidson, 76, said recently from his White Rock studio. “One thing that struck me and we are able to capture in this exhibition, a little bit, is a bit of Robert’s process of working on the graphic works,” said Hill.
“The way he talks about it is really compelling. He describes it as a visual language,” said Hill. “There was this visual language that he had to learn, and he has this incredible literacy in this visual language to the point he can do poetry with it. That’s how I think of that work as a kind of poetry within the Haida visual language.”Davidson’s education began as a boy at the feet of his ancestors.
