In addition to his fundraising efforts, Steves says he will be spending eight days on the campaign trail “to make the most of this exciting opportunity.”On the Hippie Trail.
The book documents Steves’ 1978 trip from Istanbul to Kathmandu, including the first time he got high in Afghanistan. Steves, who has spent at least 100 days in Europe a year for the past 30 years, has often discussed how Europeans have a hard time understanding America’s punitive approach to the plant.Article content
“Like most of Europe, I believe marijuana is a soft drug , not a hard drug. Like alcohol and tobacco, it should be treated as a health rather than a criminal issue. Crime should only enter the equation if it is abused to the point where innocent people are harmed,”As the momentum around cannabis reform at the federal level continues to grow, Steves writes that prohibitionists are also on high alert.
“Prohibitionist groups across the country are fundraising and spending money in an effort to defeat pro-marijuana ballot initiatives as well as our allies in Congress who support these initiatives,” he wrote in the email blast. “These regressive and reactionary forces are working to roll back civil liberties across our country.
