All these elements were present in the singing of the two lead roles, baritone Giuseppe Altomare and soprano Vittoria Yeo.
What is an Italian opera without a tenor? In this production, the tenor is Macduff, a role sung by Canadian tenor Andrew Haji, heard previously in Calgary in Bellini’s Norma. Although he has a strong voice, it was the sweeter side of Haji’s singing that was on display in his beautiful fourth-act aria, a memorable moment in the production, gaining him a very positive audience response at the final curtain.
