Parkland Burnaby Refinery receives the Corporate Good Neighbours Award.
In a news release, Burnaby Neighbourhood House said it has awarded Parkland Burnaby Refinery with the Corporate Good Neighbours Award for a $45,000 donation the company made, which will help pay six months rent at BNH's North House. The award is given to businesses in the community that have shown exceptional support for the work of Burnaby Neighbourhood House.
Parkland also supports Burnaby Meals on Wheels, the Community Engagement Program and the Burnaby Christmas Bureau. "Neighbourhood Houses play a pivotal role in Burnaby, serving as hubs of support, connection, and growth for residents from diverse backgrounds," BNH Chief Executive Officer Antonia Beck said in the release.
"The North House, despite its small space, houses the Food Hub which supports over 1,000 individuals each month, a computer café, youth leadership programs, seniors' social programs, and language classes. Parkland’s generous donation will help us continue to provide these essential services." In March, Burnaby Mayor Mike Hurley said the non-profit “really needs help,” after the non-profit's executives told council their facility in Burnaby North is “crowded and overflowing” and faces increasing rent costs.- with files from Lauren Vanderdeen, Burnaby NOW
