Chen was first heard uttering the phrase after losing the first set to South Korean foes Kim Soyeong and Kong Heeyong. Partner Jia Yifan then repeated the phrase for every winning point the rest of the match and rallied for victory in three sets.
The Chinese silver medalists were blasted by South Korean media and accused of unsporting behaviour, though the colourful language was viewed at home with amusement. Social media users in heavily-regulated China praised Chen for her competitive spirit. “Actually, it was just self-encouragement for winning points,” Chen posted on Weibo, the Chinese version of Twitter,Though impolite, the expression she used doesn’t carry the same weight in China as its English language equivalent, CNN reported.Share this article in your social network
