Another resident said she is against a park in any form, saying an influx of tourists will have a negative impact on island residents, who are already dealing with a strained ferry system. Michelle Pentz, a 20-year resident of Bowen Island, said she supported the proposal because it would preserve the land for future generations.
Metro said the campground would be supervised, and will operate with a reservation system for all types of overnight use. There will be no first-come, first-serve campsites. It’s also considering implementing strategies such as a day-use reservation system to manage numbers during peak summer weekends.
