The Algoma Elementary Teachers’ Federation of Ontario purchased the school’s replacement rainbow flag, which was raised by Greenwood care staff Wednesday morning
Just days after their Pride flag was stolen, students and staff walking into Greenwood on Wednesday noticed a fresh replacement flying on their flagpole — just beneath the Canadian flag near the school’s main entrance.
According to Greenwood teacher Natasha Cole, the Algoma Elementary Teachers’ Federation of Ontario purchased the new Pride flag for the school. Greenwood care staff raised it Wednesday morning.The Algoma District School Board was informed that Greenwood’s Pride flag had been stolen earlier this week when the board’s security company confirmed that several individuals trespassed on school property and took down the flag.
Sault Pride chair Amanda Zuke called it a “hate crime,” and told SooToday on Tuesday that pulling down Pride flags “goes against absolutely everything we should be standing for in terms of supporting our kids as they are.” ADSB communications officer Fran Walsh confirmed they are working closely with Sault Police, but says the board will not be releasing footage of the incident publicly at this time.
