More strong winds and heavy rain are likely for parts of Vancouver Island, as a “potent storm system” approaches B.C.’s south coast, says Environment Canada. the storm is expected to start Sunday night, bringing adverse weather to Greater Victoria and other parts of Vancouver Island, including east, inland and west sections, as well as the Southern Gulf Islands.
Early indications call for 70 to 100 millimetres of rain over the West Island’s mountainous terrain, while “lesser amounts” are expected elsewhere across the region, according to the agency in a special weather statement Sunday.As for wind, it says strong south-to-southeast gusts will also develop overnight before becoming very strong west-to-northwest winds on Monday. “Some inland west-to-east oriented valleys will also likely see strong westerly winds.
