The same building had been targeted by gunfire on June 5 and neighbours are scared of more violence.

“Enough is enough,” Montreal police Insp. David Shane said Tuesday, speaking directly to the culprits during a news conference. “You now have the entirety of the Montreal police force on your back.”

Montreal police Insp. David Shane and Rivière-des-Prairies—Pointe-aux-Trembles borough mayor Caroline Bourgeois meet the media Tuesday August 3, 2021 following a shooting the previous day that left three dead and two injured.Around 7 p.m. Monday, a few dozen shots were fired toward a residential building on Perras Blvd., near 54th Ave., in Rivière-des-Prairies. Five men who were inside and outside the residence were hit, and three have since died.

“I’ve lived here for 50 years, it’s my neighbourhood, but I’m no longer safe in my neighbourhood,” she said. “I don’t go out at night anymore, besides going to get my daughter because I don’t want her to take the bus.” Montreal Mayor Valérie Plante wrote that she was “shocked” by the shooting and vowed to work with police to put an end to the violence.

“The reopening seems to have worsened the tension between criminal groups that couldn’t access each other before and are now challenging themselves, in a sense,” he said.
