Police highlight importance of secure loads after packed pickup flips on Ontario road — via drivingdotca autonews
“This truck was fully loaded with tools. [It] had a tonneau cover, which luckily contained all of the tools at the location of the truck when it rolled over,” Constable Marc Taraso explained in a video posted to Twitter. “I just want to highlight the importance of securing everything in the back of your pickup truck. Had this tonneau cover not been here, you can imagine the debris field of the flying tools that this collision would’ve caused.
Had the tonneau cover not been in place, tools could’ve become shrapnel during the rollover, putting pedestrians and fellow drivers at risk for injury. The inside of the truck, however, was a mess, and Constable Taraso expressed major concern around drivers who don’t keep the interior of their vehicles free of clutter. In the case of an accident or rollover, anything that isn’t secure can turn into a hazardous projectile that could cause injury.
“It is an absolute miracle that this driver got out of this collision without any serious injuries,” he said. “The importance of load securement cannot be understated. Secure everything, even in your cargo compartment, even in the back of your truck bed.”
