Shelley Curtis Thompson, the Executive Director of the Pictou County Women’s Resource and Sexual Assault Centre, says our community can celebrate the day by taking part in several events being hosted in New Glasgow. “We need to advocate strongly for women’s rights with equity as our guide,” says Curtis Thompson. “Allyship and partnership with our community is essential. For International Women’s Day and beyond, let’s come together and embrace equity. Celebrate with us through our world café lunch, evening yoga and social media campaign.”

Embracing equity, focuses on the need to advocate for an equal voice for all women. These events are for all cis and trans women, allies, as well as non-binary people who are comfortable in a space centering on the experience of women.The Women’s Centre will be hosting a world café luncheon at Summer Street Industries, March 8 from 11:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. with Tonya Francis as our guest speaker.

or call 902-755-4647 to purchase a ticket for yourself and/or sponsor another ticket or table for $160 and pay it forward.Yoga with Maxine MacLean will be held at the North End Recreation Centre, March 8 at 6:30 p.m. This event is open to all and free of charge. A limited supply of yoga mats will be available. Participants are invited to help fill the centre’s hygiene product cupboard with supplies as a donation or make a monetary donation.
