Kendall Doiron saves her team from 2-0 deficit with OT winner
Forward Kendall Doiron was the hero for the Selects with the overtime winner on Sunday afternoon at, when her just-under-the-bar wrist shot beat Lynx goaltender Meghan Muise at the 4:11 mark of the first extra period.
“That was one of the faster AAA games I’ve seen; back and forth, high compete … just really good hockey,” said Selects’ veteran coach Craig Clarke who noted it was a case of his team having to quickly erase the disappointment of the previous day's loss and focus on the task-at-hand. Clarke said desire and hard work will continue to be the key for the rest of the series and will be a theme during Selects’ practice this week as he reminds his team their past success means their opponents are always ready to be at their best.
In Saturday’s game, the Selects received goals from Laci Boyd, Brooke Williams and Olivia Marks with Doiron, MacPherson and assistant captain Brooke Thomson earning assists. Gabby Arsenault was in net for the Selects for the narrow loss where she made 28 saves.with game four the following day at 12:30 p.m. Game five, if necessary, would be back in Pictou on Sunday although no puck-drop time has been scheduled as of press time.
