ST. JOHN'S, N.L. — Steven Wolinetz, president of the Jewish Community Havura in St. John’s, voiced his concerns Thursday about the ongoing crisis in the Middle East.Hamas members invaded southern Israel on Saturday, Oct. 7, and killed more than 1,300 people and kidnapped about 150, of various nationalities.

According to Reuters, since the conflict's onset, the situation has escalated, extending into the West Bank, and Israeli security forces have reported 27 Palestinian casualties during clashes there.'Situation is untenable' "Amid the ongoing crisis, there are talks within the community about the possibility of holding a vigil," said Wolinetz. While the event is not yet confirmed, Wolinetz said it underscores the desire of those wanting to come together during these times. While the ongoing crisis affects those in the region, its repercussions extend beyond the borders of Israel.

Porter says she has spent considerable time working with Christian aid groups, participating in activities such as harvesting and planting, aimed at supporting Palestinian communities."We go to assist the Palestinians in harvesting olives or planting the olives, depending on which time of year it is," said Porter.

"The Palestinian plots are minute, nestled between the settlements, and some of the settlers, not all, are aggressive," Porter said."It's a very difficult situation at the best of times." Badcock, 75, explained that their role was in communications, and they provided cryptographic support, ensuring the secure exchange of messages between the different international forces.
