Legendary Team Canada 1972 Summit Series hero Paul Henderson poses with a print of "The Goal," his famous winning marker late in Game 8 of the series. - Jack BolandI was slouched in the backseat of my parents’ car, beside my sister. My dad was driving. We were on the highway, on a Sunday morning of a Labour Day long weekend, returning from vacation to our Montreal home.My 14-year-old self was not particularly happy.

The Russians, I saw, were very, very good.Games in Russia started in early afternoon, Montreal time, mostly on school days. I’d just entered Grade 8 at a new school, Father McDonald-Holy Cross High.

With the series tied at three wins apiece, one tie, the final game was slated for the afternoon of Thursday, Sept. 28, 1972.
