A pilot project to offer the street community who live in the 900 block of Pandora Avenue a stipend to help clean the block has passed its first hurdle.came before council to approve a three-month pilot project offering a stipend to people living on the street to do waste collection and clean up.
Our Place indicates it plans to offer a $15 per hour stipend for two people per day doing a two-hour shift to help clean up the block.“We get a cleaner Pandora, and we also get opportunities for people who are living there to contribute to that, and people who are frequenting it and develop a stronger culture of a cleaner neighbourhood.”
“This could also be a step towards accessing more services, housing and healthcare and will provide a sense of pride and purpose, which is important for every human being,” Loughton said. “This is a summer pilot project, and we need to think through what that means and what it doesn’t include, because it’s a very different operation in bad weather seasons,” Coleman said.
