CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. — The RCMP in P.E.I. has introduced a new online non-emergency crime reporting system aimed at reducing the number of calls to 911.to report mischief or property damage under $5,000, hit-and-run of an unoccupied vehicle and property theft under $5,000.The new online crime reporting system can now be accessed through the P.E.I. RCMP website. - Contributed
The portal is not meant to replace other forms of reporting crime and police said the public should always call 911 in an emergency. It also shouldn’t be used to report stolen property such as firearms, credit cards or personal identification items, stolen or damaged property greater than $5,000 in value, or crimes where there is witness or video evidence.
"This secure reporting tool is easy, the public are provided with an incident number which can then be used for insurance purposes, and it will contribute to increasing the effectiveness of policing," said P.E.I. RCMP Acting Commanding Officer, Supt. Kevin Lewis.
