King also promised to make virtual care apps, like Maple, free to all Island residents and pledged to establish a task-force aimed at creating a plan to address backlogs in ERs caused by ambulance offload delays. When asked by SaltWire Network why he had not already allowed nurse practitioners to practise in emergency rooms during his four years in power, King said there were “challenges” within health care that made change difficult.
When again asked why he had not already implemented the health changes before calling an early spring election, King brought up the COVID-19 pandemic, which he called “a two-and-a-half little hiccup that hasn’t made life easy for anybody in the system.”
