“He had said to me a couple of days before that, that he wanted my kiss to be the last thing he felt in this world," Phalen said as tears rolled down her cheeks in an interview with SaltWire Network on Dec. 29. “I ran into a lot of people who thought it was great that he got to choose to die. It wasn’t great," Phalen said. “It was a lot of suffering. He didn’t skip out on any quality of life. Everything in those last weeks were about just looking after him and caring for him and keeping him breathing.’’
Phalen said her partner was also scrambling to sort some of his financial affairs on the day the MAID procedure was performed.
