More than 700 trucks carrying food aid are heading to famine-stricken regions in Sudan , following clearance from the Sudan ese government. This development comes after months of conflict between the Sudan ese army and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) which has caused a severe humanitarian crisis, with both sides accused of hindering aid delivery. The World Food Programme (WFP) spokesperson, Leni Kinzli, stated that the trucks will carry approximately 17,500 tons of food, sufficient to feed 1.
5 million people for a month. Kinzli added that the WFP has received around 700 clearances from the Sudanese Humanitarian Aid Commission to transport aid to difficult-to-reach areas. Some of the food will be distributed to 14 areas facing famine or at risk of it, including the Zamzam camp in Darfur. The first food aid arrived on Friday, prompting cheers from local populations who had been forced to eat crushed peanut shells. Sudan’s sovereign council head, Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, announced on Monday that several airports in areas controlled by the army would be used as humanitarian hubs to facilitate aid deliveries
