The NDP currently holds 28 seats in the Legislative Assembly of Ontario, significantly fewer than the 79 held by the Ontario PC party. Stiles emphasized the NDP's ambition to form the government, while acknowledging their position as the second-largest party. She highlighted the party's strong support in northern Ontario, pointing to the NDP's representation in Sault Ste. Marie in previous decades. Stiles assumed leadership of the Official Opposition at Queen's Park in February 2023, succeeding Andrea Horwath who had led the party since 2009. The party is fielding candidates in every Ontario riding, with Stiles emphasizing the democratic process behind candidate selection. She also unveiled a $4-billion plan to hire more doctors, choosing Sault Ste. Marie as the location for this announcement in light of the Group Health Centre's decision to de-roster approximately 10,000 patients.
