SaltWire's Atlantic regional weather forecast for October 6, 2023 | SaltWireCHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. — An Ontario-based engineer has pleaded guilty to knowingly causing the Town of Stratford to act upon a forged P.E.I. licence to practise stamp as if it were genuine.
The Town of Stratford required the construction company – Whitestone Construction – to have the building plans approved by a structural engineer to confirm that they complied with the National Building Code prior to occupancy permits being issued. Whitestone Construction retained Makke to approve the building plans so the occupancy permits could be issued.
As a result, Makke did not have a 2019 licence to practise stamp from Engineers P.E.I. when he certified structural plans for the condominium project on July 5, 2019. Instead, Makke used his 2018 stamp and altered the '8' in the year to a '9' to make it appear valid for 2019.On March 29, 2021, Engineers P.E.I. received a complaint from one of the condominium owners. While investigating the complaint, Engineers P.E.I.
"I thought the stamp would be pro-rated for the time ," Makke is quoted as saying in the agreed statement of facts.Suspension
