Following a summer season of worries about the economic situation and environmental crises rather than concerns about COVID-19 and other viruses, news of infection numbers rising as we enter autumn is likely not what anyone wants to hear.

We can all likely agree that no one wants to get sick, and one thing that the COVID-19 pandemic has certainly made us more aware of is how we can protect ourselves and others from infectious diseases. Health Canada, the American Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, along with other authorities all converge on their recommendation that almost everyone who is six months of age and older should get the seasonal flu shot every year.

Somewhat more controversially, we asked whether people would support or oppose making the seasonal flu vaccine mandatory in their province. Not surprisingly, there is a high level of overlap between the people who are planning to get the seasonal flu vaccine, the people who support mandatory seasonal flu vaccination, and the people who are concerned about the latest COVID-19 variant.
