Sault YMCA nears goal of 2,400 members by Monday amid ongoing discussions with city
The Sault Ste. Marie YMCA says it is now within 100 memberships of its goal in keeping the doors open ahead of an important city council meeting on Monday.
SooToday published a summary earlier today on how we got here and what you can do if you want to help out the local YMCA. Representatives from the Sault Ste. Marie YMCA will appear before city council on Monday for a vote that will determine the city's role in the YMCA's future operations. The plan requires the YMCA to increase its membership from approximately 1,500 to 2,400 to demonstrate long-term sustainability.
The next step includes a presentation by city staff of a memorandum of understanding, outlining the city's governance role and the YMCA's reporting responsibilities.
