The fourth annual Back to School Blast, hosted by CityReach Care Society, took place Saturday in East Vancouver, South Vancouver, the Tri-Cities and Surrey with a free BBQ, prize giveaways, and free haircuts for kids.
Organizers say there are “countless” families still experiencing the financial impacts from the pandemic, who rely on food banks and other supports. Many are also struggling with the rising cost of living and interest rates. “We had hundreds of children today whose their families are accessing our food support because they’re in a vulnerable position and, especially as you know, food prices rise,” said Cheryl“So today’s event is just one more way that we can provide a tangible need for those families, but also just provide them with an experience that is hopefully really impactful and memorable for them.
