Nine years ago, Myles Creighton was an impressionable teenage golfer who volunteered to caddie at the Nova Scotia Open tournament staged at his home course of Ashburn.

“I was a naive kid thinking I could be playing in that tournament and doing well just because it was at my home course and I played it every day,” Creighton recalled in a phone interview from Ancaster, Ont., where he will tee up in this week’s RBC Canadian Open. Last season, Creighton won the PGA Tour Latinoamerica’s Inter Rapidisimo championship in Colombia and finished second overall in that tour’s order of merit which allowed him to move up to the Korn Ferry Tour.

“It’s exciting to play on the Korn Ferry, it’s new and all exciting, getting an opportunity every week to better your status for next year and possibly have PGA Tour status for next year. There's a great opportunity every week to do that.”Creighton came into the season with limited status on the Korn Ferry that only guaranteed him spots in the first eight events of the year. But his play has assured his membership would be extended for the rest of the season.

After carding three consecutive rounds of 65, Creighton fired a spectacular 9-under 62 during a final round which was delayed for five hours because of morning thunderstorms in North Texas.
