BREAKING: The Edmonton Oilers have signed defenceman Darnell Nurse to an eight-year contract extension with an average annual value of $9.25 million.

Nurse's new deal is for eight years and $74 million, which boils down to an average annual value of $9.25 million. The 26-year-old is coming off a dominant campaign in which he put up a career-high 16 goals while averaging 25:38 minutes per night, fourth-most in the league. Nurse is heading into the final year of the two-year bridge he signed with Edmonton in December 2020, paying him $5.6 million in 2021-22.
At $9.25 million, he'd be the fifth-highest paid defenceman in the league in 2022-23, out-earned by only Erik Karlsson, Drew Doughty, Zach Weresnki and Seth Jones.
