Ohio State men's volleyball claimed its 18th MIVA conference title with a win over top seed Ball State in Muncie Saturday night.
No. 3 seed Ohio State knocked off No. 1 seed Ball State in straight sets Saturday in Muncie, Indiana, to claim the program's 18th MIVA tournament championship and first since 2018.
The Buckeyes topped the Cardinals, 27-25, 25-17, 19-25, and 25-19, dispatching the defending MIVA tournament champions on their home court to secure OSU's 11th consecutive win, the longest such streak for Ohio State since the 2017 team opened the season with 19 straight wins on the way to claiming the national championship.
The win gives the Bucks the rubber match as the two teams split with each other in the regular season. Ball State topped Ohio State in Muncie 3-0 on March 15, while the Buckeyes answered with a 3-2 win in Columbus three days later. Ohio State, ranked No. 11 nationally but expected to enter the top 10 following this tournament win, receives an automatic bid to the NCAA Men's Volleyball Tournament with the Buckeyes' first match set to take place Tuesday, May 2 at EagleBank Arena in Fairfax Virginia.
The Buckeyes claimed a share of the MIVA regular season title with Ball State thanks to a 3-0 win over Loyola two weeks ago. It was the 28th regular season championship in program history and the first for head coach Kevin Burch, who took over the program in 2019.
