Jays 0 Rays 4 We came into the series and I thought ‘if we get a split I’ll be very happy’. We got a split, but when you win the first two games, it doesn’t feel like a split. They seem to have forgotten their bats today.

Just four hits, three singles and a double. And only two walks. Lukes, Guerrero, Varsho and Clement had the hits. And we not only couldn’t hit, we rarely had a competitive at bat. On the pitching side, Chris Bassitt had all sorts of bad luck in the second inning. He got two outs and then: * Soft fly ball to center landing in front of Varsho. 71.4 mph. * Soft ground ball up the middle. Well not all that soft, 94.4 mph, but not at anyone. * Harder grounder to short that Andres Gimenez almost made the play one. Nice try by Andres. * Pop fly single to center, too softly hit for Varsho to get to. 71.4 mph. * Ground ball that went off Ernie Clement’s glove. Nice effort by Ernie, but just came up short. He went 4.1, allowing 8 hits, 3 earned, 2 walks with 3 strikeouts. A ball hit at a fielder in that second inning would have made his day looks so much better. Eric Lauer gave up the fourth run, in the sixth. Braydon Fisher and Seranthony Dominguez put up zeros. Jays of the Day: There weren’t one . High mark was Fisher at .011. Other Award: Bassitt and all the batters. Tomorrow we start a three-game series with the Royals. Max Scherzer vs. Michael Lorenzen will get the starts. A win would make me feel better about things.
