A region in northern Ontario, specifically the town of Ignace and the Wabigoon Lake Ojibway Nation, has been chosen as the site for Canada's nuclear waste storage in a deep geological repository. The Nuclear Waste Management Organization (NWMO) announced the decision after a decade-long selection process from 22 initial locations.

The process to select a site for the $26-billion project began in 2010 with 22 potential locations and was eventually narrowed down to two finalists in Ontario.
