The results of the vote were binding as long as there was at least 50 per cent voter turnout, and nearly 70 per cent of eligible residents cast a ballot.The Nuclear Waste Management Organization plans to select a site this year where millions of bundles of used nuclear fuel will be placed in a network of underground rooms connected by cavernous tunnels.
