Nintendo has announced further details on its plans to close the 3DS and Wii U eShop early next year.that it’d be closing down the online services for its older consoles. Today, it confirmed the exact dates, and what players can expect so that they can prepare.
As per Twitter, later this year players will no longer be able to add funds to their account via these consoles from August 29. Players will then have until March 27, 2023 to spend any remaining funds on stuff for Wii U or Nintendo 3DS. Free content, including demos, will also no longer be downloadable after this latter date.
Even after the deadline, Nintendo promises you’ll still be able to redownload games, DLC that players already own. You’ll also still be able to get game updates, and online play should still function on these consoles as before. Any remaining funds in your account after the deadline will only be able to be used to buy Switch content.. The digital version of this tactical RPG allows you to play to a certain point in the story, before you make a critical decision and choose one of two paths.
Apparently, this won’t be able to happen once the store closes. As a result, sales for this game will cease a month earlier, on 28 February. The game’s DLC, which includes a third path, will be available until March 27.Even after 27/03/2023 and for the foreseeable future, it will still be possible to redownload games and DLC, receive software updates and enjoy online play on Wii U consoles and Nintendo 3DS systems.Sales of the game Fire Emblem Fates will end one month earlier, on 28/02/2023.
