LIVE Emergency services in hazmat suits rush to chemical leak
Road closures and a cordon have been set up following a chemical leak inEmergency services have closed off an area around Brierley Road at Walton Summit Industrial Estate this morning. Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service was first called to the scene at around 11am and is now working with other partners including United Utilities to make the area safe.
A spokesperson for the fire service confirmed the incident related to a chemical leak and added that no injuries have been reported. A 50m cordon has been set up around the site. In a further update, a spokesperson said: “We are in attendance at a hazardous materials incident on Walton Summit Industrial Estate, Bamber Bridge. Road closures and a safety cordon are in place. Please avoid the area if possible.
“We are working with United Utilities and other partners to make the scene safe. Brierley Road is affected by the closure. Thank you for your patience while we deal with this incident.”Minimal traffic in the area despite road closures and cordons in place on Brierley Road, Walton Summit Industrial Estate, Bamber Bridge.
Live traffic maps show no added build up on the roads surrounding the area that is currently blocked off by emergency services.
