Despite the appeal of Elias Pettersson, the NHL has picked two other squads with high-profile Swedes in their ranks to play in Stockholm in November 2019
The NHL has passed on the chance to throw Elias Pettersson and the Vancouver Canucks in front of a Swedish audience next fall.
The Blackhawks and Flyers will open their respective seasons on Oct. 4 at O2 Arena in Prague, while the Sabres and Lightning will skate in a pair of games at the Ericsson Globe in Stockholm on Nov. 8 and 9. But the star power of the Sabres’ Rasmus Dahlin and the Lightning’s Victor Hedman obviously burned brighter in the league’s eyes.
“They identify the teams they think would be a good fit and then approach them,” he said Thursday. “We weren’t asked.”
