Newfoundland and Labrador is reporting a record-breaking year for visitors to provincial historic sites in 2022. FileST. JOHN'S, N.L. — Newfoundland and Labrador’s provincialSites opened on May 21 and welcomed 117,000 visitors throughout the season, the provincial Department of Tourism said. Admission to provincial historic sites was free as part of the province's Come Home Year.
The number of visitors in 2022 represents a 236 per cent increase compared with the same period in 2021, a 653 per cent jump over the same period in 2020 and is 13 per cent higher than in 2019. The sites have consistently experienced an increase in visitation each year since 2016, except for the years impacted by COVID-19.in St. John’s continues to remain open seven days a week.
