J-Street Community Centre in Sydney Mines was the organization picked and they were presented with their award by YMCA of Cape Breton CEO Sabrina Vatcher on Nov. 18. "The nominations also provided a number of inspiring examples of how J-Street Community Space demonstrated the YMCA’s PEACE values of Participation, Empathy, Advocacy, Community and Empowerment."A nomination process was used to determine potential Peace Medal recipients for 2022. There were 10 nominations and the J-Street Community Space, which opened in June, received two. Vatcher shared some of what people who nominated J-Street said in response to nomination questions.
