NEW-WES-VALLEY, N.L. — The Newfoundland towns of New-Wes-Valley and Port Rexton are receiving nearly $1.4 million in federal funding to help fast-track the construction of 42 homes over the next three years.New-Wes-Valley will use the funding to commit to five local initiatives, like increasing focus on low-income housing through a multi-family complex.
They’ll also seek to use a tax sales incentive for residents looking to build but unable to find suitable land, along with reviewing municipal regulations to support and encourage building new homes. "Small towns need to grow to become viable, and the greatest obstacle to this is money,” said New-Wes-Valley Mayor Michael Tiller.Port Rexton’s action plan will also commit to five local initiatives, like promoting a climate change adaptability and mitigation plan.
It will also support non-profit organizations to create and maintain more affordable homes and review neighbourhood planning practices to encourage modular housing. It has been our privilege to have the trust and support of our East Coast communities for the last 200 years.
