A New Minas man knows first-hand that when a person’s ability to breathe is compromised, little else matters.
Representatives of Respiratory Services in the Nova Scotia Health Authority’s western zone and the Valley Regional Hospital Foundation with new pulmonary function test equipment purchased for the regional hospital in Kentville. They include Debbie Hennigar, Jill Cushing, Denise Huntley Cameron, Brandi Baxter-Brown, Tanya Gould, Danielle Stronach, Richard Urquhart, and Ellen Crowley. CONTRIBUTEDKENTVILLE, N.S.
“They took me out of my comfort zone and had me speak at four different wine series events and I was pretty much their ambassador for the spring and summer,” Reid said.The foundation was able to reach its $250,000 goal for its Breathe Well Campaign in approximately 10 months. The campaign raised money to purchase two new pieces of pulmonary function test equipment and two portable spirometers for the Valley Regional Hospital .
Nova Scotia Department of Public Works Deputy Minister Peter Hackett presents Mike Reid of New Minas, accompanied by his wife Sandy, with the Queen Elizabeth II Platinum Jubilee Medal. He was awarded the medal in recognition of his charity work. CONTRIBUTED Reid said tickets have been on sale for about a month and are selling well. Proceeds from the concert are going to support school breakfast and lunch programs between Windsor and Bridgetown.
Cushing said the new equipment is very valuable to the VRH and the population it serves. They’re grateful to VRHF volunteers for making it a reality. She said it was important for the hospital to update the equipment, as guidelines change over the years, and the new machines feature up-to-date software.
