Plans were already under way for a new emergency department before COVID\u002D19 arrived, but the pandemic made it clear why it is badly needed.

The new department will also include some design enhancements brought in because of the pandemic, such as splash resistant sinks. Wilson Trider said the hospital anticipates hiring more staff for the new emergency department when it is open.
