It is one of the great rivalries in sport, set to finally play out with everything on the line.
What’s more, this unprecedented tourney clash will take place at the Final Four – in front of a full football stadium of fans at the Caesars Superdome in New Orleans. As if a North Carolina-Duke showdown with the possibility of it being Coach K’s last game isn’t big enough, two other bluebloods join them at the Final Four — the Kansas Jayhawks and Villanova Wildcats.
Kansas most recently won the national title in 2008. The Jayhawks have the most wins of any NCAA Division I program. The team defence has been excellent, allowing opponents to shoot just 34.1 per cent during the tournament. North Carolina junior forward Armando Bacot was third in the country in rebounding while also averaging 16.5 points this season. The six-foot-10 Bacot had a rare 20-20 game as the Tar Heels crushed lovable underdog Saint Peter’s, a No. 15 seed, in the Elite 8.
