The National Aeronautics and Space Administration is splitting up its space exploration and operations division into separate units, a move the agency said will help it focus its efforts as more private companies bet on business opportunities in space.
One of the new divisions will handle missions such as Artemis, NASA’s effort to return Americans to the moon, and focus on longer-term work such as reaching Mars. The other will manage launch activities and operations in space, including the International Space Station, as well as commercial activities in orbit relatively close to Earth, according to the agency.
