Opposition to a plan to help support the Heritage Park Museum with a rural property tax goes far deeper than just a bylaw to put that tax in place.

It's actually a test by those opposing the plan to determine the support within Thornhill to move the community out from under the Kitimat-Stikine regional district and become a municipality.

"I just want Thornhill residents to see the ramifications of what could be behind this bylaw," he said. To Erb, it's a stealth attack on a deliberate years-long campaign by Terrace city council, in cahoots with regional district administrators and the regional district board to deny Thornhill its own identity.

"They went out right after the long weekend, the Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday," said Erb, emphasizing voters have until Aug. 30 to respond. But after his election in 2022, he began objecting to the long-standing grant-in-aid method used to provide money from Thornhill and Area C.
