Motor sports enthusiasts celebrate new racetrack opening north of Calgary

Cars cruise the circuit at the newly opened Rocky Mountain Motorsports near Carstairs.

After seven years navigating approvals and sound permits, Alberta has a new racetrack for car and motorbike enthusiasts.. It features 16 turns and 36 metres of elevation change.The facility is based around memberships, with time also allocated for public use and classes.Long-awaited Alberta race track opensThe track — which is located at the Carstairs overpass about 20 minutes north of Calgary — has been in development for about 10 years.

Cars old and new are brought to the track by members who pay between $45,000 and $250,000 to join. The track is also open to the public. Drivers of high-performance cars can use the track to practise driving skills at high speeds and enjoy their vehicle's performance without the risk of a ticket.High-performance vehicles line up next to the new track on the facility's official opening day.
