Jeanette Russell makes recommendations to improve fish harvester safety, including calling for a federal inquiry

Russell has also has formed the Labrador Coalition for Search and Rescue to advocate for “this essential service.” “This unit could be housed at 5 Wing Goose Bay,” she said. “It would offer the availability of air assets, nighttime flight capacity and heat-signature technology within closer vicinity to crisis at sea in Labrador. It would greatly reduce response time and impact positive outcomes.”
A federal commission of inquiry, noted Russell, would establish a platform to examine all the complex issues surrounding fishing vessel safety, and allow all groups to arrive at a comprehensive list of ways to make overall improvements.
